 In order to estimate the electromagnetic characteristics of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) under high-load condition, the electromagnetic-thermal coupled characteristic analysis method of the PMSM is proposed in this paper. When PMSM drives under the condition of high-load, the driving time of the PMSM is very short due to the temperature rise of coil. However, the temperature of the permanent magnet (PM) do not change much in short driving time. In assumption with constant temperature and residual induction of the PM, the electromagnetic-thermal coupled characteristic analysis is conducted considering the varying resistance of coil. Once the electric parameters are obtained by the 2-D finite element analysis, the electromagnetic characteristic analysis is conducted by d, q axis voltage equation and the thermal characteristic analysis is performed by lumped parameter thermal network (LPTN).
