 The voice coil actuator (VCA) is used as an actuator in circuit breakers that require a fast response because of no reduction of a thrust force during operation. Under fast response condition, the circuit breakers in power transmission systems have both high-speed driving and high-load generation, so dynamic characteristics of the actuator are important. The dynamic characteristics of the actuator can be predicted through 3-dimensional finite element analysis. However, this method takes a long computation time. In this paper, a fast and precise method to predict the electromechanical dynamic characteristics of a VCA is proposed. Through a 3-dimensional equivalent magnetic circuit network (3-D EMCN), the parameter map for electrical parameters is constructed, and voltage and motion equations predict the operating time, current, and thrust force. Electrical parameters calculated with 3-D EMCN are verified through experiments. The proposed method for predicting the electromechanical dynamics of VCA is also validated  in comparison with the results of the experiments. Additionally, dynamic characteristics are analyzed according to changes in the main parameters of dynamic characteristics through the proven method.
