The ultra-high-speed motor that drives the air compressor has large electromagnetic losses due to high rotational speed. The motor is affected by pulse-width modulated (PWM) harmonic current and, the PWM harmonic current increases the electromagnetic losses of the motor, thereby further increasing the motor temperature. In this study, the inverter simulation is conducted to predict the PWM harmonic current waveform. The temperature of the motor due to the PWM harmonic current is predicted through the lumped parameter thermal network. The effect of the PWM harmonic current on the motor temperature is analyzed compared to when the sinusoidal current applied.
