When an induction motor(IM) is utilized for traction, both the operating speed and saturation level increase compared to typical industrial IMs. Therefore, accurate prediction of IMs losses becomes crucial for designing high-efficiency motors. In particular, since the induction motor has a slip, it has more complex harmonic iron loss characteristics unlike the synchronous device. In order to understand this harmonic characteristic clearly, it is necessary to analyze the harmonic characteristic of the magnetic flux density that causes iron loss. Therefore, this paper analyzes slot harmonic characteristics of the magnetic flux density of the induction motors analytically and verify using finite element analysis.
