The rotor of an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) has ribs which a structure between the air gap and the air barrier. The shape of ribs affect the electromagnetic and mechanical performance of the IPMSM. These two performances are inversely proportional depending on the thickness of the rib. The asymmetric ribless structure with alternating stacked rotor was made to solve this problem. This structure has the advantage of being able to improve electromagnetic performance while minimizing the amount of magnet flux leaked, and mechanically securing structural stability. However, due to the nature of the asymmetric structure, 3D finite element method(FEA) is required and there is a disadvantage that it takes a long time to interpret. This paper proposed the asymmetric ribless rotor with alternating stacked structure, and performed 2D FEA reflecting the characteristics of the alternating stacked structure to reduce the analysis time.
