In order to improve the mileage of a hybrid vehicle, it is necessary to increase the power density and efficiency of the traction motor. When the rectangular wire is applied to the motor, it can have a high power density. However, in the high-speed region, the AC resistance increases due to the effect of the eddy currents in the conductor, and the loss increases. Therefore, when designing a motor using a rectangular wire, the effect of AC resistance should be considered. In this paper, AC resistance according to the shape and arrangement of rectangular wire is compared. The AC resistance is calculated through the 2-dimensional finite element analysis (2-D FEA) at the high-speed operation point, and the current density distribution of rectangular wire is compared. For each model according to the shape of rectangular wire, the ratio of DC resistance to AC resistance is calculated. Finally, the loss and efficiency of each model are compared and analyzed.
